Exciting times at Soft Furnishings by Mickie with the move into a gorgeous new creative space - her very own garden studio...
Mickie has made the big decision to move her soft furnishing business from the delightful village of Dunchurch where she has been based for ten years to her beautiful, peaceful home garden studio in Bilton village. Mickie will be offering the same high quality bespoke curtains, blinds and soft furnishings service... with a more personalised service.
We enjoyed a cup of tea and a lovely catch up with Mickie.
So Mickie, how did you find yourself working with soft furnishings?
‘I was a lover of needlework at school, always dreaming that one day I would have my own soft furnishing business. I began my career sewing from home over 25 years ago while I had two young children. The hours and flexibility suited my lifestyle. As my children got older and I had more time to commit to my work and passion, my business grew and I had an opportunity to open my first shop on the outskirts of Rugby town centre.’
How did your business grow?
‘The first shop opening went really well, so much so that I was able to open a second shop in Dunchurch a few years later. After running the two shops for a while I realised that I hadn’t got the work/life balance quite right so decided to focus on my Dunchurch shop. A few years on, I have now come full circle and ready for my next exciting challenge of woking from my home garden studio.’
What makes your soft furnishing business so special?
‘I offer a unique and very personal service, aiming to design your soft furnishings to be as individual as your home ~ bringing your ideas to life. I love exploring the styles of the customers that I work with. I pride myself on providing the highest quality of service’
How do you like to work with your customers?
‘Firstly I will visit the customer in their home for an initial consultation to discuss individual designs, colour schemes and patterns, I have a full range of fabric books to browse and lots of suppliers available. It is really important that I get a feel for the space and style so that I can enhance this with the soft furnishings that I create.
Follow up appointments/fitting follow. If they prefer, customers can visit me in my garden studio too. Customers get a complete service from start to finish.’
